Prayer of St Francis of Assisi:
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy Peace; Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy.
Oh Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved, as to love; For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, It is in dying that we are born into eternal life.
Entering the Inner Sanctuary
Enter this sanctuary time by settling down, becoming quiet, and breathing deeply a few breaths. Remind yourself you are in the Presence of Love. This place you are entering, within, is the inner Temple. Here, you are One with Spirit and all persons, and Nature. You may use a mantra, or prayer phrase, follow the breathing in-and-out, or witness the arising and falling of all around you as the manifestation of universal-Grace. In The Trivilization of God, Donald McCullough quotes a noted Canadian photographer named Freeman Patterson. Patterson speaks of boundaries that prevented him from the best photo possibilities. He said:
Letting go of the self is an essential precondition to real seeing. When you let go of yourself, you abandon any preconceptions about the subject matter which might cramp you into photographing in a certain, predetermined way....
When you let go, new conceptions arise from your direct experience of the subject matter, and new ideas and feelings will guide you as you make pictures.

Buddhism shares the idea Beginner's Mind. This is when you allow yourself an always-fresh openness to see without the prejudices of the past, and without a focus on self-reference.
This self-less openness allows, likewise, you to see potential new ways of being in this world, as well has seeing others in more compassionate, empathic ways.
Through this being-open, you are able to release more and un-habituate from living based on societal conditioning that has shaped you to live in certian ways. You see other possibilities of being in the world and relating with others that appear unlike you.
